I liked this book on blogging. When I first spotted this title I wasn't sure I wanted to pick it up. The author is a professional writer. He has written a lot of books. And I've read a few of them. I've even posted a book review for one or two of them on Amazon. The author's books for the most part come across as term papers to me. They can be kind of mechanical and don't always dig too deeply into the subject material. But this book is better than most of his previous works. Maybe it is because he is an active blogger himself and much of what he covers here came from first-hand knowledge?

I am by no means an expert when it comes to blogging. But I have read quite a few books on the subject and I have two blogs of my own which I haven't been contributing to lately. In my humble opinion this book is one of the better ones I have read on blogging. I was very happy to see some coverage of Blogger-dot-com and Wordpress-dot-com, two free services that anyone can (and should) take advantage of when building an online presence for themselves or their business(es). I was not familiar with Vox-dot-com or Blogster-dot-com before I read this book, but now think they are nice services to get involved with, too.

The book is well organized and well written. It is fairly comprehensive. It has 15 chapters and a glossary. The target audience is probably small business owners who are seeking to take their company online so they have an online presence where they can promote themselves, their expertise, their credibility, and how much of an authority they are. Blogging is an important ingredient in the mix, and by reading this book you will probably be well on the road to using your blogs both efficiently and productively. 5 stars!

PS. To learn more about this book I encourage you to visit the Search Inside feature Amazon offers which includes the book's Table of Contents. Enjoy!

I read summaries and reviews of a number of blogging books before deciding to purchase this one. I'm really happy with this book, and am impressed with the amount of topics Jason Rich covers in a succinct, knowledgeable and easy to understand way. Just the right size handbook.

Rich talks about everything from vlogging to the look of your site to search engine optimization. And because his book is new for 2009, buyers now will find everything completely up to date, unlike some of the other books. He gives realistic advice on monetizing a site, and becoming popular as a blogger.

Rich also interviews well known bloggers for tips on how to get your blog out there and get page views. Overall, it is a very comprehensive read that you can skip around to various sections where you want to learn more.

Jason Rich's comprehensive guide to blogging is packed with valuable information for anyone interested in blogging; either as an expression of personal creativity, or trying to make the big-time. I blog, but not very often; and now I know why. To do it right, it takes much more time & effort than I'm willing to devote to it.

However, if you're really convinced you can be the next big thing in the world of blogging, you'll definitely want to grab a copy of this book. It's terrific.

Rich covers it all, in a very well organized format, which could lead almost anyone in the right direction. I'm not at all technically oriented, so the first part of the book bored me---the setup phase. But that's just me; the information is certainly valuable, but again, I'm not into all that gagetry.

The rest of the book was quite interesting to me, since it covered less technical aspects of the process & focused more on the creative aspects of blogging. I suppose it came as no surprise to me to discover if you want to be a force in the world of blogging, you'd better have something original, compelling, and entertaining to write about. I enjoyed reading the interviews from the power bloggers, because their creativity is inspiring. Of course, the extent of my blogging career is pretty much limited to that no-brainer 140 character limit phenomenon we all love---Twitter.

Reviewer: L. J. Carmer,
After having read 2 or 3 library books on blogging, I ordered this. Of all the books and articles on blogging I've read, this was the most readable. The author was concise and explained the intricacies of online publishing in sufficient, but not overwhelming, detail.

Although I was only interested in blogging, there was sufficient explanation of vlogging to satisfy anyone's curiosity.

As for the "Fame and Fortune" portion of the title, the author makes it clear that no one achieves this without hard work, patience and months or even years of persistence. His interviews with famous bloggers reinforces this.

This was definitely worth the money and is likely to be my reference for awhile.
