My First Affiliate Sale

I made my first affiliate sale. In my last post I talked about my $1000 a month challenge. In it I described how as an experiment I was going to go through the basics of internet marketing and making money online and start an affiliate marketing business to see if it could be done and if could make money and be profitable. I wasn’t going to worry about my existing business, GirlMogul, but start over, from doing my niche research, building a site, finding a product and making cash.
It’s been one week. I made my first affiliate sale, for about $40 in my pocket. I didn’t have to ship this product, answer any customer service questions. It happened while I was sleeping. So I’m sold. However, I have only sold one product in about 4 days. And I spent close to $80 (in PPC to get that sale). It appeared that I had about 100 visitors, for a 1% conversion rate. (Not terrible, but could be better). Now that the euphoria has worn off, I am still convinced of the power of affiliate marketing but I am looking at it more closely. To get to my $1000 a month, I need about one sale a day, if I spend no money on marketing. 2 Sales a day if I spend $40 a on PPC. So I am carefully setting my budget (no getting carried away and paying outrageously for clicks)…
But the main take away – it appears that this affiliate thing can work – was it the easy $40 I ever made – yes – I had to do work for it – but there is something about making money in your sleep…
Next post – how I selected my niche and why…
