My Second Affiliate Marketing Sale

In my last post I told you about how I had made my first affiliate sale - after setting up my blog in a popular niche category. I selected one product from ClickBank to promote, found keywords, designed landing pages and set up a Google AdWords campaign. I sold my first affiliate product (an info product) for a profit of $38. Spent to acquire that sale – well over $100.
Knowing that was unsustainable – I would never make any money in affiliate marketing if I kept that up, I buckled down. I added more keywords and more landing pages. I dramatically lowered my max cost per click price. I still got traffic, but not as much, and no sales.
I decided to encourage people to sign up to my email list, and then try to make my affiliate sale after they signed up. This worked better – instead of getting no sales and spending money, I was getting sign ups but not many.
Then I changed my opt in box to be one of those pop up ones – in exchange for an email address, I send a free report about the topic of interest. My conversion rate is now between 35-50% and I am still spending way less than a dollar on each sign up.
And – I made my second affiliate sale. And on that day I spent just $17 in Pay per click (PPC) advertising, so my profit was greater than 100%. Yay. Of course, not time to quit the day job, but the second step in success.
By the way, I am so impressed with the efficacy of the pop up opt in box, I am going to be adding it to my GirlMogul mom site shortly.
Keep reading for more as I chronicle my true journey on making money as an affiliate.
Oh – any I was on vacation when I made that sale. booy -yah…
